Yoeri Slegers
From sketch … to book …
Author and illustrator Yoeri Slegers tells us: 'For my latest book, The king who never said no, I was looking for a way to break down barriers and to make the topic burnout discussable. The king was the perfect character for this, someone with a role he can’t get out of. The king is tremendously worried, as he’s never able to say ‘no’. With every new concern, his beard becomes a little longer, until he gets entangled in it.'
Yoeri Slegers’s childhood dream was to become an illustrator. In the meantime, his dream has come true as he has not only illustrated more than 20 books, but also written the texts for several of them. Some of his books have been translated into Korean, Chinese, Danish, German and English. His work includes books such as Crocodile’s crossing: looking for home (Krokodil op weg naar beter) and De koning die nooit nee zei (The king who never said no). In addition to illustrating, he holds workshops for drawing and writing in Belgium and the Netherlands.
