Bram De Baere

"Every book begins with an idea that Bieke has. As soon as she sends me the first draft or storyline, the creative wheels start turning in my head. I use this to visualize which angles, perspectives, and compositions I could use to make the story as interesting and original as possible on every page. Once I have a clear picture of all this in my head, I can start sketching on paper or digitally."

"I really enjoyed illustrating Wat als ik pof (What if I pop?). Nacho is a very rewarding and versatile character that you can take in so many different directions. With his green cape and flowing hair, he can look really tough, but he also has a more fearful side, when he hides in his cob and when he gets really scared and too hot, he pops. So you can really portray the character in many different ways."

"Bieke and I have already discussed adding cherries to the fruity characters. It inspired us both to get started. Because cherries often come in pairs, we thought of developing them as two characters who are attached to each other and end up in different situations. It reminded us a bit of the relationship between a brother and sister, who may tease each other sometimes, but are still inseparable."
